We are going to be discussing new idea from my maize farm. The idea is going to be shouldered on mixed cropping. Mixed cropping involves the planting of two or more species in one farm. From the simple definition of mixed cropping, I'm going to be practicing it in my 7 day old maize 🌽 farm. I'll be planting okra which is known as ladies finger in my maize farm.
Reason for the okra (ladies finger) mixing to the maize farm
I didn't have it in mind that I'll be mixing any other crop to my maize farm. If you can recall a post I shared yesterday about a 6 day old maize farm, you'll recall that the farm has enough space. When I went to check the farm in order for me to have and update to share in the community, I saw that the maize 🌽 farm has grown. What I mean about the maize farm grown is that the planted maizes has grown to where it can easily be seen.
After going around my maize and observed that the planted maize have germinated with enough spaces. Seeing that Okra can survive with maize 🌽 if mixed together, I decided to plant the okra.
We'll have it in mind that okra (ladies finger) can survive growing together with maize, it's because maize root can't affect okra root. Okra root usually has one and little others. The main long okra root usually grow straight by penetrating into the soil. This will make the okra to survive many other plants outside maize.
How I planted the okra
I took a strong stick 🏒 from the maize farm to be used for the planting. The stick will be used to open the soil before the okra will be allowed to enter the soil.
Use a stick to open the soil. Before you do that, consider giving the maize planted already a space from the okra to be planted. By the time we have opened the soil, count 4 seed and pour to the already opened soil. Use your hand to cover the soil.
