Hello to every Homesteader. In my last post, I discussed how I harvested my rice seed from my farmland. Today, I will be talking about another rice farmland of mine and how it was affected by a climatic factor known as dry season due to late planting.
I believe that we all know that the best time to plant rice is the rainy season because I discussed that some months ago. Yes, the rainy season is actually the best time for rice planting because the roots need consistent water to grow fine. Besides, rice is a semi-aquatic plant and it can survive in fresh waters as long the stem or leaf can receive photosynthesis. Though, dry rice can survive in dry land depending if the soil is conducive for the rice. Do you know why rice survives inside the water because of the presence of aerenchyma? The aerenchyma helps rice planted in water to be able to generate oxygen and then transport it from the leaf down to the root.
Do you know that after I was happy that I harvested my rice with good seed production some days ago, I never noticed that one other of my rice farmland is not doing well due to the late planting of the rice? It was a friend of mine that told me that he was happy to see that I harvested some rice last week but I need to visit my other rice farmland.
Honestly, when I visited my other rice farmland, I noticed that the rice was not doing well at all. The reason why the rice seems not to be doing well is that I planted them very late than when I planted the one I harvested last week.
I never expected that the rice will not do well because there’s always a nearby river that used to flow into the rice farmland whenever the river is filled up. The nearby river is always filled when the rainy season is about to go off. This was the reason why I planted the rice very late but the climate changed by not allowing the nearby river to the rice farmland to be filled as before. The result of the river not entering the rice farmland affected the rice completely.
With this experience of water not flowing into my rice farmland which affected the growth, I have actually learned my lessons. I have suggested making some drainage from the river to the rice farmland from next year's rice planting but my fear is what if I do the drainage and the river now overflows and damages the entire rice?
Please after you must have gone through the write-up, I need your suggestions on how to solve the problem.
