A month later, we have the long-awaited homage of the chicken family. 5 new chicks hatched. Initially, there were 8 eggs, but 2 did not hatch at all, one chick died.
However, 5 is also a good result. This mother hen brought out only 4 out of 7 last year. So the progress is obvious.
The chicks hatched a little earlier than we would like - we still have night frosts, and the mother hen took them outside on the first day in search of worms. Therefore, I had to move the house with chickens to the greenhouse, next to the winter chicken coop (it is temporarily located in my greenhouse).
The territory for the chickens was fenced with a net so that the rest of the chickens would not disturb them. The chickens in the new place feel just fine.
In addition to chickens, I had to urgently prune the horns of a goat. One of her horns grows a little crooked and has grown to the point that it rests against her cheek and has already begun to rub the skin to the blood.
Unfortunately, the pruning process could not be filmed, since there were no free hands. I was holding a goat, and my wife, armed with a saw, was cutting a horn. Sawed off a small piece, about 2 cm. Now we can relax for a while.
Our friends had a similar case, they did not keep track of one of the rams and his horn grew into his jaw. I won't allow that.
And one more not so good news - my dog killed one of my ducks. I don't know what to do with this dog now. I gave him some good kicks, but that's certainly not the solution. Trust in the dog is lost.
Let's see how he will behave further, we may have to get rid of him.
