This weekend is full of activity. two markets back to back, then a birthday party across the border in Spain 🇪🇸
today, Saturday, I have an evening community market in the beautiful nearby village of Idanha-a-Velha. a historic village dating back to roman times.
moving our normal daytime market to the evening is our way of handling the heat during the summer months. most community markets become evening / night markets.
Tomorrow Sunday, a daytime market in a village slightly further away called Orca (it is nowhere near the ocean, go figure..😀)
this one is an early morning market and I will be there until about 1PM when the heat becomes unbearable.
even though this time of year isn´t the best for selling plants, as it gets way too hot to actually plant any, the anticipation is high. it isn´t only about selling, but also about community engagement. the markets is where I do a lot of my social life, meeting clients, neighbors and friends, sharing a good moment, great food and lovely atmosphere. an excuse to leave the farm chores and projects and inter mingle with other humans.
in order to beat the heat, by 09:45, the plants are watered and loaded onto the van and ready for the afternoon.
the rest of the day will be dedicated to final organizations, promotion of the markets and maybe even some rest.
after the market tomorrow, I will have to zoom home, unload the plants, take a quick shower and zoom off again to a friends daughter birthday party held near a river under the shade of giant trees.
thank you for stopping by 🙏
wishing us all a peaceful weekend
