"Nothing is more fulfilling than harvesting from what you sowed in your yard at home." - Anonymous
A bountiful HELLO to all the amazing people of this yielding community! I hope you are all fine and kicking today! It's been a while since I published my last post in this beautiful community. And I am delighted to be with you today catching up on what I've missed☺️.
For this blog, I will be sharing with you my latest harvest at my home garden. We've been experiencing a hot season reaching a heat index of more than 40 degrees here in the Philippines and my garden at home is about to collapse😅!
It was a day of scorching heat when I noticed my ginger's yellowish leaves. It's been eight months since I planted these ginger near the fence. I was a bit sad because I thought it was destroyed by pests and died. As I looked at it closely, I noticed that the ginger was shown out from the soil. So I decided to dig it all up and get what I could save.
I was surprised when I pulled up my ginger plants. I was wrong, they were not destroyed by pests. I thought that the dry and yellowish leaves might be the sign that my ginger plants were ready for harvest, so I excitedly harvest all of them🥰.
Capturing a fulfilling smile from a neophyte gardener boasting her harvest in her backyard!😂
I am extremely fulfilled after the harvest! I did not expect to harvest this much from 5-small leftover pieces of ginger, eight months ago🤩. Truly, leftovers in the kitchen, maybe spices or veggies, are still useful if you know how to plant and grow them.
A delicious recipe using my harvested ginger...
Later that harvest day, I was able to use my ginger as a spice for my cooking. I cooked pork soup for dinner☺️ and ginger was one of the important spices that enriched The flavour of the soup. It gives a perfect aroma that everybody in the household loved. Here's how we cooked it (a simple recipe):
Firstly, I washed the pork meat (leg-to-toe part) thoroughly in running water.
Second, add enough water and put it to boil.
While waiting for it to boil, prepare the other ingredients.
When it boils, take away the foam forming at the top of the boiling water until it's all gone (I don't know what's the purpose of it but that is actually how we do our pork soup😅).
Next, add the sliced onion and ginger. Let it simmer until the meat is tender enough to bite.
While waiting for the pork to become tender, prepare the leafy ingredient of the soup and wash it thoroughly in running water.
Once the pork meat is tender enough, add the leafy ingredient. Then, add salt and ground pepper to taste (Don't overcook the vegetable!).
Finally, serve when hot and with rice because, in the Philippines, RICE IS LIFE😂!
Our kind of perfect dinner😍🤤! Enjoy!
And that's it for now my friends! I hope you enjoyed reading this post☺️. It is really important that we know how to sow in our own backyard because we would harvest it in the right time. Let's face it, the prices in the market are way too high and inflation is hitting us hard even ginger's price in the market per kilo is too high for ordinary people like us. Planting and growing spices and vegetables at home really helps.
Thank you so much for your time and support as always! See you on my next blog. God bless and big hugs! Bye. 💞🙏
