Well, Friends... This is not something we thought to expect... a more dramatic effect on the landscape of our property certainly would not have been possible, without this major intervention by Mother Earth, as She attempts to introduce some radical new harmony in our land! Natural Earth Works!
Following multiple days of continuous rain/ snowy-rain, I drove off to find the outer edge of this permastorm, spending a wonderfully dry pair of days at the Arthouse in Guardia Sanframondi - feeling perfectly rejuvenated and refreshed (and dried out)...
After my second night away, Vincent sent some blurry (rained on!) photos of a small landslip, which didn't appear serious (at first!) - but I was concerned, and opted to return immediately - my arrival back on the land also coinciding with the rain finally stopping.
I'd seen some fairly dramatic sights on the road away from our land, two days before: rivers having burst their banks uniformly all the way through Molise and into Campania, roads and bridges collapsed, places where the hillside had slipped onto the tarmac, and such quantities of water everywhere; rivers rushing down what had previously been (unwatery) fields, and gathering in small lochs on the superstrada, and filling large areas that normally were quite dry. Molto impressionante!
I felt blessed to have escaped the worst of it! And to get out of Molise without my engine flooded!
But returning - all energised and enthusiastic - the large crack in our land from that morning... had become a very much larger movement of earth than we could ever have expected. It cuts through almost half of our land - right in the upper centre - and below the new mini cliff it has improvised, there is the most extraordinary undulous 'wave' of land, including olive trees, tussocks of grass, daisies and all, 'flowing' downhill in an utterly new landscape - completely different from before....
It is quite surreal, to say the least, and looks like a semi-serious earthquake has come through. Deep, deep fissures are open, some with watery flows along them and puddles collecting.
There is one large section in the middle of the ruccus, which looks like it simply dropped a couple of metres. Boom! Then an almost comical bulge at the lower edge of the drama, with water seeping out all along it.
The days after the land moving have been, in contrast, spectacularly warm and sunny. So the clay seam (the mini cliff) exposed is already drying out nicely. The great gash across the midriff of our beloved hillside has already softened, and the initial shock and emotional-jarring has given way to more philosophical comprehension of what is actually going on.
In fact, the new landscape is quite astonishingly beautiful.
More than beautiful... It is perfect. and I have been walking all around, feeling into it, getting transmissions from the spirits of the landscape, and feeling more than ever that this land is Alive, it is Conscious, and it is Ours.
We will most certainly have MUCH more to share about this huge event on our property. It changes everything for us... Like the well is compromised, and like we have to wait now to feel into how the land is settling... how the waters continue to move... what'll happen when it rains next....
But in the meantime, we JUST got our tent back up and, after the most delicious 'day off' down by the river, with our shirts off, foraging and exploring - now we're freshly ensconsed in our favourite sleeping quarters. A hard-won paradise!
A presto, tutti - many blessings and much bliss to you all, this holy day!
