I left for the co-op drop off later than normal yesterday. One reason was to not have to deal with the school traffic and the other was that R was home from school with a cough. So to let him rest a bit more we headed down for a 9am drop off.
As we were leaving we were just on the highway when I saw this bright orange life vest laying in the median. I made a mental note of it and on the way home I stopped and ran back to get it. It's a brand new looking PFD.
After getting home I had to look around online first before we then headed up to Deer Park. Bimart had 5 gallon gas cans and a battery powered fuel transfer pump along with my ghetto turn indicators. In the rv section they had level indicators that is just a bb in a channel marked with degrees. I will mount it on the dash of the plane so I will be able to tell what bank angle I am at in a turn. An actual avionics unit would cost me a ton of money, ($500+).
Then we drove next door to the Oreilly where I got new spark plugs and the 2T oil.
First thing I did once we got home was to change the spark plugs which I found was very much needed . All 4 plugs looked awful.
Then I had to make a fuel drain setup. I stuck the extra piece of fuel line on the drain valve but it is a press valve so I had to use the screw driver to jam in to hold the valve open so the fuel would drain into an old gas can. I figure I can use it for my chainsaw and weedeater as it is 50:1 mix.
While the fuel drained, (which took quite a while) I went and got some harvesting done. The cucumbers had 42 for me and the squash had 13 pounds.
The tomatoes are very consistent every time I pick, this time 11.5 pounds.
I finally found the instructions for my propeller so I now know how the pitch adjustment works. I have to see if it will actually work as I don't hear the motor working when I hit the switch inside. I have a 3-ring binder that I am filling with all the instructions for the motor, carbs, propeller, gearbox, and other mechanical pieces. The big binder in the house has the assembly instructions for the frame.
The greenhouse plastic is falling apart since I didn't use UV resistant poly. The break is all along the south face along the wood compression strips. I had to remove them and then use duct tape to get it all back together.
I have a rip in the top that I need to address today before it starts raining.
My afternoon was spent cleaning the plane. I started on the nose and washed the fiberglass down. I have to go back with some degreaser to get the fuel stains off.
I then pulled the horizontal stabilizers off to make it easier to clean them.
What an incredible difference the washing makes. At first I used the brush to scrub the wings but then I figured out to use the mister setting on the spray nozzle which worked great to get the heavier dirt off.
I used the brush to work out more of the dirt and sprayed the wings down more to rinse them.
I wasn't able to get the inner 3 sections of the wing as they sit over the cockpit and I didn't want water getting all over the inside. I left the doors open overnight to give some air flow to allow it to dry better.
Fall is here as the temps are falling as well as the leaves. It was actually chilly when we went to go soak.
Today it is going to be raining off and on and I need to get the greenhouse repair done. I am going to go pull the tobacco leaves and peas from the rack before the rain hits here soon. I will be getting non-ethanol gas today in my dedicated gas cans then filling my plane and hopefully getting the motor running if I can sneak the plane out of the hangar between rain showers. I need to get some other stuff picked up around the farm before the rain hits then noon Man Utd will play and probably get whooped again.
