As it would figure it was cloudy all morning yesterday so there was no seeing the eclipse for us. I could tell it got a bit darker at the peak but the clouds just obscured the whole event.
Art and I have a route to go climb in Washington pass this next week. Spontaneity Arete looks to be a mellow climb that we will be able to get up in a few hours.
The mail delivered my fiberglass rods for my plane's front forks. I first thing marked them to length and cut them both on the band saw.
took the boys to a birthday party up north a bit so I had the afternoon to myself. In looking and chatting with Art about the climb I went to my gear shed and rummaged through my rack. I pulled the wide gear off and then reracked with the .3 through 3.5 with doubles on the smaller sizes.I have my 70m 8.8 mm alpine lines that I will bring which should allow us to link many pitches. We will probably simul climb a lot of it. I tossed the rack in the pack and set it aside.
The front fork for the plane did not want to go into the top. The rods had to be pounded in with the sledge but I hit it too hard and mushroomed the end a bit. I had to sand it down slightly then I slid the bottom piece that the axle goes through over the end and drilled the hole and inserted a bolt. This allowed me to pound on the end of the rod without it mushrooming and I got the rod all the way into the fork.
It was pretty tricky to get the holes lined up on the end for the axle but I managed and got it nice and straight.
I have it reinstalled on the plane now and need to come up with another tire as the old one is not in the best shape.
I spent time in the garden trying to make room for the garlic. These rows on the upper part of the main garden have to get pulled and I started with the squash plants on the south end.
Then I worked my way to the top of the rows and got much of the stuff piled. Today I will take the wheelbarrow and haul the piles to the animal pen. Then I have to finish the removal and pull the plastic and irrigation. I want to till the rows before the garlic goes in then I think I will gather a ton of pine needles to lay over the top of the rows for winter.
I got the fire going in the pit a bit before 5pm. They did not get home until near 6pm from the party so it was a bit later when we ate. I grilled our burgers while the Kraken game was on but they almost won in shootouts. They played WAY WAY better and I hope that they can get over the win hump.
The boys were little psychos thanks to the sugar and caffeine they had at the party. We pretty much had to scrape them off the walls to get them to go to bed.
Today I have work in the garden to do, we have a potluck to go to for a bit, then this evening we are seeing TOOL in Spokane with the boys.
