Was up in time to watch the Giro yesterday morning which is just odd that it starts NOT in Italy...
The chicks made it through the night and were seeming just the right temp with the heat lamp.
By the time I got back from my ride the boys had found the other 2 chicks so we have all 5 in the house now.
While soaked I went and got some of the mowing done. The road needed the sides hacked down, where there is public access and more chance of something getting tossed that could light up.
Then got the creek side area cut down. I still have a lot of mowing to do but it is coming along okay.
Noon I went for a ride. Headed south then rode a bit of the course for Sunday, opposite direction but still.
The Burnhill ridge gave a nice view back north towards the farm.
So then I rode back to the highway then up to Woolard and then up Perry. I had the choice of going up, up, or down to get home... I chose the steepest of the ups which is Half Moon road... HOLY SHIT is it steep! Talk about a slog up that incline! Garmin said it was 8.8%. Reminded me of San Francisco streets...
The traffic signs says 10% on top...
That was a seriously steep climb, the steepest I have done on my road bike so far.
Managed to get over 20 miles in and I have just one more moderate ride to do before the 50 mile ride on Sunday.
The main garden garlic rows have started looking a bit peeked so I got the sprinkler out and set it up in the middle. Watered for about half an hour and will need to do so every couple days likely. I am not a fan of overhead watering but in this case I have no choice with the rows all so close together.
The bees were not happy I covered over the entrance to the hive so no more robbing.
The rhubarb needed trimming so I harvested a nice bundle of stalks from my 2 plants. They will have at least one more harvest off them.
Got the fire going to grill and then hauled off old ash from the old fire pit. My stinging nettle is getting big and didn't sting me once in the dumping.
Grilled the steaks for dinner while the boys worked on a rhubarb crisp.
We got in a hike up to the top to watch the sunset.
Interesting to watch the dark line grow as the sun sets.
Today I have farm work to do. Boys to school, More mowing - lots of mowing, keep up on the chicks, weed pulling in the gardens, probably do a short mellow trainer ride, have to do the HomeBoost scanning, try and fix the R/O faucet, schedule more work for this week, cleaning around the farm, then come up with dinner this evening.
6 days to my 50 miler! And I am nearing 1000 miles so far this year, just 84 to go which likely will get hit on the 50 mile ride.
