Before 5am yesterday I was out the door as it rained on me and headed to town for grain. The first brewery had a single barrel with mostly dry grain. I tossed a bit of spent grain that was there on top and then strapped it down on the trailer. I had the bed of the truck full of empties so had to make the single work on the trailer. It held fine until I got to the other breweries.
Empties got dropped below the stacks. Now that it is not as cold there are a bunch of homeless back under the train overpass.
At the last brewery I had 2 barrels to pickup and got all 3 loaded into the truck. The farm is pure ice so moving the trailer around is nigh on impossible, so I get the barrels in the truck to begin with.
So much snow is gone now thanks to all the rains we are getting.
It was after 9am when I headed out to dump the grain. I parked in front of the pen and went to open the gate and saw one of the turkey hens was standing in the pen, soaked from the rain, happily pecking away at the older grain. Apparently she had not gone into the coop the night before and had slept out with the sheep.
She was super happy to be munching on the fresh grain. The sheep and alpaca waited until I had the gate closed before they went diving in.
The barrel of dry grain went to the birds. I don't give the ruminants dry grain, only the spent grain so they don't hurt themselves. It worked out nicely that I was able to flush fill their big feeder and a bit went to a bin in the coop.
Some ended up on the ground where they spent the day scratching it around. That one drum of grain gives me at least 5 days of food for the flock.
Before noon I was in Spokane at the oral surgeons. I am not happy that it will be so long but I have my surgery scheduled for February 1st to take out 5 teeth. 3 wisdom teeth and two molars will all come out and I will be getting bone grafts to fill in so that next year I can get implants. Thank god the ibuprofen is managing to still work on the pain. (You can see my glass ear ring.)
I picked the boys up from school then put on the newest Battlebots episode for us to watch. I got dinner ready early so we could be to the high school before 6pm for wrestling signups for the boys. This year is going to be a bit tougher since J and R have different night practices. R has Monday and Wednesday and J Tuesday Thursday. J's best friend is going to be doing Monday Wednesday so he is thinking he will do Monday Tuesday and R will do Monday Wednesday. My preference would be just 2 of the 4 days but we will see how it all goes as the practice nights are a bit flexible.
Back home headed up to her studio to put her new work bench together. I had picked it up from Home Depot for her and got it hauled to the deck. Thankfully there was just enough of the eves to keep it from getting soaked. She got all the pieces inside then got it all put together. The table raises and lowers and has a couple nice wide drawers to it. She plans on finding some cabinets to go underneath to give a ton more storage.
I am planning out the drive we will be doing next month to see my dad and while and I talked about it she found a link to get a LIFETIME free national parks pass for Veterans. It is free if you go to one of the offices or it is $10 online. I paid for it and will have my LIFETIME pass in up to 3 weeks. We are going to be going to Zion and Bryce and will totally get to use it.
