First task yesterday was to gather up all my wood cutting tools into one area so I could load them up in my truck later in the day. The 2 extra sharpened chains should be enough with the still fairly sharp chain on the saw. We only have a few trees to take down so I better not need all the chains.
I had the controller off but needed to turn the water valve itself off for the pole and potato gardens. Being in the north we have to have the valves below frost line which requires the tool to reach it way down deep. I love black poly for irrigation lines as all I have to do is shut the water valve off then open all the valves. No blowing the lines out or messing around.
I brought home a blackberry plant from California, from my childhood home, and it did quite nicely in the greenhouse. I had to get it in the ground before winter so I took it to the creek and planted it next to the other blackberry plant that I have.
The older plant is at least 4 years old and I got it on the west side near Issaquah. It has taken a long time for it to really get established but this year it put off some nice runners.
It was quite nice to get the clouds gone and the fog burned off midday so it could dry out a bunch of the dampness still on everything from the prior rains.
I had to find wood in the storage that would be the right size for the shelves in the pantry. I found a couple that were the right depth then I cut them to length.
I added the supports beneath then fixed them into the shelving area.
It works perfectly to hold a bunch of our overflow spices.
Later in the day I got a batch of glycerin going in the crock. I really need to deal with the solid state switch as I think it is fried and refuses to turn the power off when the controller tells it to. I have another I just need to wire it in.
My phone has been a slug so I found app killer which works really well. It goes through and force stops every app that is running in the background that I don't have whitelisted. I ran it and my phone came back to life and opened apps quick like it used to.
Batch 88 finished and was ready to bag up at 9pm. I got the trays pulled and then emptied into a bag. The stuff powders easily and soon I had the batch nearly completely powdered.
Today the boys and I head up to our friend's house so I can help Matt cut down a few trees that are close to their house. I have my chains and cables with so we can direct the trees exactly where we want them. Then this afternoon I will keep working on cleanup around the farm and in the gardens. I know where the garlic will be planted but I need to pull the plastic and the plants in the area to make room.
