First day of 2022 was a work day for me. We woke in the morning to 0°F temps which made getting to the tub a sprint. Before going out for the soak I went down to the basement to check on the seeds and found that one of the Wild Garden Kales had sprouted. By the evening one of the Fizz had popped out of the soil.
The entirety of my day was spent moving everything in our bedroom around. I felt like I was working a Rubix Cube because I had to move a number of items multiple times. I got the dressers all out, the shelves out, the closet floor cleared out.
This was where I started to remove the carpeting first. I took my utility knife with fresh blade and cut a line from the closet to the wall along the length of the bed. I pulled up the top layer of carpet which exposed a second layer beneath.
Then beneath the second layer of carpet is a thin underlayment.
Then beneath the underlayment is linoleum over a layer of craft paper.
Talk about a pain in the ass having to remove all these layers. Fortunately the linoleum is not glued down just stapled so it will come up nice and easy today.
Next was to cut the section towards the door. Each of the pieces of carpeting or underlayment got dropped out one of the windows so I didn't have to keep walking the pieces through the living room.
I tipped the bed up and leaned it against the wall in the linoleum to give me access to the rest of the carpeting.
Our bed hasn't moved in years and the underside had collected a fair amount of garbage. I cut the free section out and dropped it out the window. I then moved the last bits of stuff from the wall and removed the last of the carpeting.
My body was pretty beat up by evening time. My elbows are getting sore more often as I keep working. I didn't soak too long as I was super tired.
Today I am going to get the linoleum all up, the tack edges pulled, and hopefully the laminate flooring all in. I got a lot of the staples removed yesterday but will have more to pull today before installing the laminate. We are expecting up to 6 inches of snow in the next few days and the boys go back to school tomorrow.
I would like to get to town today to order a welder but I may not have time with the work around the house.
