I know that among all the plants in the garden, there are always many species that are medicinal. In my case, I know and use three medicinal plants very often. Citronella, Santamaría and Sanguinaria.
I usually use citronella combined with Santamaría. I make infusions with small branches of these two species. They are very valuable in cases of acute respiratory problems.
We drink this infusion at home to relieve my respiratory problems without resorting to medication. It has a very pleasant effect on me because in addition to calming my cough, it also gives me a touch of tranquility to my days.
Since it also corrects the gastrointestinal tract a little, my son usually takes it and helps him in this regard.
Citronella is a perennial plant with long, lanceolate leaves. It has a lemon flavor, very mild.
Its scientific name is Cymbopogon citratus. In my country it is called: malojillo and citronella.
It is a plant with an anti-inflammatory effect, very commonly used for digestive disorders.
I constantly inhale a lot of dust when I plant my plants, and especially now that I have been remodeling my office throughout the year. My nostrils are constantly congested, and my airways fill with fluid. So I constantly make my favorite infusion with citronella and Santamaría leaves.
Santamaría is a bushy plant, with small, oval, corrugated leaves, which are also very aromatic.
Another name by which it is known is lemon balm and scientifically it is known as Lippia alba.
It has anti-flu powers and is also anti-inflammatory for the digestive, respiratory and joint tracts.
Another plant I like to use is sanguinaria. It gets its name from the fact that when placed in boiling water, the water turns as red as blood.
I place a few branches of the plant in boiling water, cover it, and let it steep for 15 minutes. Then I let it cool to room temperature before putting it in the refrigerator. To finish the recipe, I add lemon juice and a little honey. It is a very refreshing drink for the stomach, but its main function is to boost the body's defenses by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies.
It is also often used in baths and rubs for people with viral skin conditions, such as measles and chickenpox.
There are other plants in my garden that have helped me medicinally, but I will talk about them another time.
