On Tuesday morning I was up by 5AM and started a load of dishes in the dishwasher. Then I got my post up and sat down for a while as I wasn’t feeling so good. I got a shower next.
When the dishwasher finished, I reloaded it and finished cleaning the kitchen. My brother took the truck to the inspection station and I followed in the car.
3rd Fence garden – my husband’s favorite phlox
Once home I was still not feeling good and realized it was probably tied to my husband’s upcoming birthday on Saturday. These “anniversaries” are still wiping me out, five years later.
I was supposed to be cleaning up the house plants that had been moved to the 8 foot table a couple weeks ago so my helper friend could feed them when he arrived at 9:30AM. But that didn’t happen. He did all the other house plants though.
I made a cup of tea to try to perk up some and when I sat at the dining room table, I realized that I could work on the pictures that had been piled there for 2 weeks, a mostly sitting job. So I got them all dusted, polished, and the glass cleaned before hanging them all back up.
Years ago my helper friend had given me seeds for balloonflower, a favorite of his. I had them in 3 places, the Fence gardens, the New Herb garden, and the East Shed garden.
They had done well in each of these places. The first one I lost was the Fence gardens because I couldn’t keep the gardens up during construction. But this winter I lost the one in the New Herb garden too. One of the odd things I lost, while other warmer zone plants did well over the winter.
So all that’s left is the one in the East Shed garden and it’s just started to bloom.
West Herb garden – mallow flowers
He finished the feeding of house plants and left to do a lot of errands. I finished the pictures, but was too wiped out to clean up my mess. I went back into the office to cool down.
New South garden - balsam
I got a call after noontime from the mechanic that the truck passed inspection and it was on the street with a parking meter. I called my brother who was at work but he couldn’t get here before 2PM, so I called them and told them that. They’d feed the meter.
All I wanted to do was go to sleep but I managed to stay awake until my brother got home. So we walked right by the gas cans on the porch and headed out for the truck.
Back when the brakes failed on the truck, the plan had been, when the truck passed inspection that day, to bring the cans and fill them all and the truck up. I had warned the mechanic the gas gauge didn’t work and it might run out of gas. Then I promptly forgot about it as it was awhile before the truck was repaired.
Passed again for another year!
So I got the truck and I was following my brother in the car. We were about 2 miles from home when the truck lost power then started again. And then I remembered! No gas…
I was right by where my son works so I pulled in there after honking and flashing lights at my brother. He came back and got me; we got a gas can, and filled it and got the truck running again. We made it back home and he headed out to finish what he’d been doing.
I’ll have to take the truck down and fill it and the gas cans real soon…
And then I went to bed for a nap!
Rabbit in evening
We have LOTS of rabbits so far this summer. The coyotes don’t seem to be making a dent in them.
I was inside at suppertime and heard this commotion on the front porch. I looked out and there were 3 wrens perched on the porch, yelling bloody murder. Apparently they had returned to start a second family and I’d long since taken the bag down and cleaned it up. They were NOT pleased!
I was supposed to start the sprinklers on Tuesday morning but I was so out of it I forgot. So I got them going in the evening and will have to finish on Wednesday morning.
It was wicked hot and humid well into the evening on Tuesday so I got to bed late.
On Wednesday I plan to start the sprinklers at 5AM, pick peas at 6AM, and try to get the 4th walkway cleaned out as it’s to be 70’s during the morning and cloudy. We’ll see…
