Hello Everyone!
Staying on track, Lots of fictional writing, Planting radishes, A wee bit of rain & Getting low on utility water!
Alright, I am beginning my writing routine a little over an hour earlier than I have been doing it lately... so hopefully I can avoid the hour being too late before I can get it finished. Doing the tedious parts of editing and posting while fatigued (like I have been doing) just makes everything needlessly aggravating at the ass end of the day... and I really want to begin avoiding that.
I might have to begin making shorter entries if I cannot get into a better schedule with it all... but that is something that mentally pains me to even consider. Instead, it will be far better if I can somehow figure how to get all of my end of the day activities wrapped up sooner... and be able to start writing earlier.
Anyways, today was not a super productive day outdoors because I needed to take a small break... and let my body recover some after having done so much over the last many weeks. The sky was dark with storm clouds for much of the day as well... and with the way that the wind was gusting... I did not feel all that good about working under the trees... so at least I did not waste a nice day.
Early in the day, I went ahead and gathered some topsoil in an empty (plastic) fastener container... and planted around a dozen radish seeds inside of it. I did not bother to poke any holes in the container's bottom, because I am just trying to get the radish plants started in there... before transplanting them elsewhere.
I wound up putting that container inside the little greenhouse, since I could not figure out where else to put it. Ultimately, I think that the greenhouse is the perfect spot for starting plants in... and I have two more similar containers that I might plant some grasses, white clover and maybe some pumpkins in... before storing them in there as well.
Late in the afternoon, it wound up raining pretty good... but it only lasted about fifteen or twenty minutes... which was not nearly enough... even though... it was at least something. Aside from all the flower pots getting some water in them, the rain also knocked down the limestone road dust that has been billowing up nonstop given how dry everything has been.
I was hoping that it would rain again later in the day, so that I could collect more rainwater... due to the first rain basically only acting as a 'first flush' on all the rain catchment systems... and the water winding up being pretty fouled. Although I say 'fouled' what I mean, is that it has a lot of road dust and pollen in it because those two things were/are caked all over the studio roof and the water collection tarps.
On a related note, if it does not rain a bunch soon... I will really have to start scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel when it comes to usable clean utility water. Usually, I have been able to 'keep up on it' much better... but currently I only have around seventy-five liters (roughly twenty gallons) on hand and about twice that in 'dirty' water.
Staying ahead on the utility water supply has been tricky, mainly because I have been washing a lot of stuff with it, I had to refill the gravity-fed system after the winter ended... and it has not been raining much. I am really not super concerned about running out of that kind of water... but I do miss the sense of security that comes with knowing that I have plenty of it available.
All that jazz aside, I have been mulling over how to construct a long rectangular frame... that I can construct a gutter inside of... with some of that thick polyethylene 'plastic' that I have. For the most part, I think that I got it all figured out... except for how to suspend it high enough off the ground to avoid getting splatter in it during heavy rain events.
Who knows how that will work out in the end... but I definitely need to figure out how to start catching a whole lot more water from the studio's roof than what I am catching with the buckets. At this point I do not even so much care how such a gutter would look... as long as it is functional enough to not get blown away in the wind... and of course catch a heck of a lot more water.
The entire 'water scenario' has been a reoccurring theme my whole stay here... and personally I am inclined to think that (all things considered) I have done super well at handling it as well I have. Sure, buying my own drinking water is less than ideal (and comes with its own stresses like affordability and availability) but thus far it has been working out most of the time.
Well, I think that I am going to call this entry good enough and get on with the editing and posting phase of things. I hope that everyone is doing well. Ta ta for now.
