Greetings Hivers,
It’s great to be on this community blogging once again. When I saw this contest, I was very happy what made me more excited is the subject at hand ‘WEEDS’., weeds are a pain in the bum especially to farmers and household backyards. But before I continue, I want to use opportunity to talk about the term weeds in general.
Let’s think about doing something at the wrong place at the wrong time, these types of activities are usually useless unwanted. We can liken weeds to this situation, weeds are plants growing at the wrong place, at the wrong time and therefore unwanted by the individual. They grow without the say so or knowledge of the farmer thereby making them unwanted and have to be removed.
This brings me to another aspect, How do we remove weeds?…. Well there are so many ways weeds can be removed and all depend on certain factors like how big is your garden or farm?, Do you have enough capital to afford it?, How soon do you want it? And many more. If you have considered these factors you can decided if you want to use a Cutlas, Hand pulling, knapsack sprayer and Hoe. Obviously hand pulling would take a long time. The cutlass and hoe on the other hand can used in a medium size area. Knapsack sprayer is costly and requires a lot of capital, this method is undoubtedly the fastest.
Some of the tools you can use to remove weeds
Now that we have gotten past all these, I want to share some weeds that I have take out of the front and backyard of my house. This contest just arrived in time before I had done it other wise I wouldn’t have been able to remember to take some pictures. I decided to use the cutlass as a method of removing my weeds because it fit my circumstances.
Using the cutlass to remove the weeds isn’t that fast as compared to using the chemicals in the sprayer. We believe that using too much chemicals can have an effect on the fertility of the land.
Clearing the weeds using the Cutlass
Once we were done clearing the place, we gathered the weeds at a particular place so that the place can look decent and cleared.
After gathering the weeds
What I have learnt from my dad is that nothing is useless. We only say it’s useless because we haven’t found a purpose for it ‘yet’. We try as much as possible to use some of the weeds we have gathered to practice Mulching, which is the process of covering the soil with grass to prevent direct sun rays from hitting the soil.
So we cover the button of our plants with the weeds so that when we water them, the water won’t be easily evaporated when they sun shines. Trust me we get a lot of sun from where I come from.(I could swear that the sun is 1 feet away from my head sometimes.)
Avoiding weeds is something I think it’s not possible we can only control and manage it. One of the effective ways we can do this is by constantly pulling them out. Though it might seem like it’s a bit of a stretch but very soon you will start noticing how much they have reduced the next time they grow again.
I almost forgot look at what I found when pulling some weeds out.
I urge as all to try and participate in this wonderful contest and I want to say a very big thank you for this opportunity to share mine with this community. Thank you and have a nice day.
