I strongly believe in making plans. Planning provides flexibility to fulfill your dreams. You’re a step ahead when you plan to do something. Growing up, I was the type of person that had a wide range of imagination. I’d imagine myself in space talking to aliens. Funny, right? It was also my habit to imagine myself achieving greater things. I didn’t allow my imagination to flow away. I held it tight, made plans, and started working towards my plans.
At 22, where would you want to be? At 58, how much money do you want to have in your bank account? At 18, where do you want to build your mansion? I’m sure you want to do a lot of great things in life, but are working towards it? Are you making plans?
In this article, I’m going to talk about my plans for the next two years. Where would justfavour want to see himself in the next two years? What does he intend to achieve? Are his plans to study alone? You’re about to find out.
PISCICULTURE. Have you ever heard of it? Pisciculture is also known as fish farming. It involves the commercial breeding of fish. When I was a kid, rearing fish was one of the things I imagined doing. Remember I said I had a wide range of imagination? Yeah! I imagined my adult- self owning a very big fish pond where I’d breed fish for the consumption of my family and also as a means of income. The 10-year-old me imagined doing this thing, but sadly, I didn’t make plans. I guess I was too young to do something.

Why fish farming, why not something else?
As I said earlier, it is my childhood dream to get involved in fish farming. Wouldn’t it be nice to own a large fish tank or fish pond of your own? Wouldn’t it be nice when you don’t have to worry about inflation in the price of fish in the market? Here in my country, the price of food, including meats and fish keeps increasing day by day. Sadly, a large percentage of people can’t do anything about it. They just have to buy it regardless of the price. Catfish… The first time I heard this was when I was in Primary school (grade 9), my initial thought was that it was a fish and cat joined together. Hahaha. The price of catfish now is so alarming. Why bother about the price when you could just focus, make plans to start rearing your own catfish and follow that plan faithfully.
There are lots of things that I’d also love to rear, but fish farming is top on my list.
Now that I’m older, what am I doing? How do I want to achieve my dreams of rearing fish?
The surprising part about everything is that I want to achieve everything on my own, without my parents’ or sibling’s support. Kind of weird, right? Well regardless of whether you think it is weird or not, I’m sticking to it.
I want to set up everything with my own capital. I don’t want to be a burden to anyone, so I have to do things on my own. To be frank with you, I totally forgot about my plans, not until two years ago, when I visited my grandmother’s fish pond and since then, I have been saving up to own my own fish farm when I turn 22. Controlling a fish farm at 22 years old isn’t a bad idea, right? I’m sure you all agree with me on that.
I started saving two years ago, and sadly, I lost some of the money to a friend who borrowed it and ran away. Funny. With that, I still didn’t give up. I rose to my feet, rescheduled. Change my ways. Amended my plans and started saving again. In all truth and sincerity, I have not saved up to 20% of the amount I need, but I’m determined and I know I’ll save enough before I turn 22.
What have I discovered about fish farming
I have done my research and I discovered some new things about fish farming. If you’re also interested in fish farming, read this carefully.
The first thing to do is to select a good land area. You have to consider the quality, size, and source of water. Don’t buy bad land because it is cheap. Don’t rush, save more money and buy land you won’t regret buying. Buy a land that is big enough for what you want to do? Consider the size of your fish farm before you do anything silly. Make sure the land you are buying/using has a good water source. Good water supply is one of the most vital things you need in rearing fish. Find a land where there is clean water, clean water helps promote healthy fish.
Secondly, the pond construction matters too. What is the essence of choosing a good land with a bad construction? The pond construction is a very important part too. Water should flow freely. There should also be a good drainage system.
Thirdly, choose the type of fish farming you want to start. There are lots of species of fish and deciding the one to start can be very confusing for most people. Personally, I’d love to start with catfish farming. Sounds nice, right?
Catfish farming is the best type of fish to choose if you want to harvest quickly. A friend of mine told me catfish farming is very easy to rear, as they can be reared even in a pond or fish tank.

Another thing you should know is the feeding of your fish. You eat every day, right? Great, do the same for your fish. I’m sure you don’t want to starve them. They need supplements and enough food that will improve their productivity. When purchasing supplements for your fish, make sure you specify what species you are rearing.
Now that you have learned that you should always feed your fish, what next? Make sure your fishpond is always clean. Keep the fish healthy. Prevent parasites and diseases.
The last thing to do is to harvest and market your fish.
