Last year we had an invasion of stink bugs, they literally ate our tomatoes and there was nothing they didn't damage. Luckily this winter there was frost and a little bit of frost so there is no one this year. But this year the Colorado potato beetle is the one that attacked our potatoes and also lays eggs on tomatoes.
Although we collected and removed it, it did not help. It is an extremely invasive species and if not treated quickly it can destroy the entire potato patch.
My wife and I try to produce our fruits and vegetables organically, so some poisons are out of the question. Only as a last resort. But until then, we have purchased homemade milk from a woman in our village. Since insects are not lactose intolerant and some insects do not like the smell of milk.
Our recipe is simple: mix 2 deciliters of milk with 5 liters of water. Mix everything well in a spray bottle. Spray on a sunny day so that the milk sticks to the potato leaves.Nettle is also good against this pest, but we are currently in short supply of it.
In the part of the yard that is closer to the garden, we have a chamomile invasion. We have harvested some for tea, maybe we will do a little more. But I should definitely get a chamomile comb.
Last year, a storm took away our fence, with which we divided two parts of the yard. In the part where the chamomile is, there were cockscombs. Last year, I made a smaller part of the yard intended for cockscombs. They don't have grass there either. In order not to build a fence again, we used real netting to just fence off the yard. So that the cockscombs don't go into this part of the yard where we have a greenhouse and a flower garden.
Old tree stumps were used for improvisation. The little chickens will be released all day on the grass, the hens will be released for a few hours at a time, so that they don't destroy all the grass.
My son has taken over the hazelnut tree. Last year I built him a treehouse, then he added a swing between the hazelnut and apricot trees.
This time he asked for a tent and a ladder.
We made the tent from a 3x4 m tarpaulin. And for the ladder, we used an old plastic ladder from a slide. So that he could climb and sit on the tree.
The cultivated form of hazelnut is a tree.
We shaped it like an umbrella. More precisely, a parasol because it really creates shade all around. Ideal for children to play under it.
Thanks for reading.
Until next time.
Stay healthy.
