Hello Hive
A beautiful Sunday morning to us all
I hope that we are chilling on this weekend and having a good time.
We had one of the most chaotic evenings yesterday among our poultry birds especially the turkey when they wouldn't allow us to have a peaceful evening yesterday.
Both the children and the Turkey birds were happy playing around the compound. The children were unaware of the turkey chasing each other as it was mating time.
Mating is an innate behaviour among animals and as soon as they begin to reach 4 four months you start noticing this sign among them, At 6months max they are ready to mate and lay eggs.
Almost everybody in this compound now raises birds, as soon as they notice they benefits people derive from it, no one wants to be left behind. Everyone one has a small cage and keeps one or two birds and we are all hoping that they will continue to multiply. Now that almost everything is so expensive it is better for people to raise their birds by themselves which will be more cheaper than trying to purchase meat from the market. And since we have people among us who are familiar with this task, everyone gets to learn from each other and this knowledge is shared us here.
Its a bit funny that regardless of how much these birds looked similar in appearance everyone knows the ones that are theirs.
Since our birds are a bit bigger in size now we decide to stop feeding them to the regular poultry feeds sold at the market. Raising poultry this way makes it cheaper compared feeding them with all through with the feeds sold at the market.
Funny enough these birds can eat virtually anything been feed to them, all the crumbs from our table have now found some good use.
The birds that are meant for laying eggs can be feed with quality foods all through so that they can lay these eggs at the appropriate time and lay quality eggs.
I have been sharing tips about how to raise turkey birds here with the community and hopefully someone will find these tips useful.
