Hello Hive
Here is our groundnut farm what people often generally refer to as peas. Gradually we have come to the end of planting of groundnuts for this season.
We have planted about 6kg of groundnuts in different locations. Quite smaller than what we have planted last year due to unavailability of farming space.
The planting was done in succession according to how much land was cultivated and ready for us. We couldn't get labourers to assist with the cultivation of land hence my daddy has been the one tilling the soil manually.
We are now able to plant on the land space available and what he has tilled.
The peas that were first planted have grown very well above the ground a would soon be producing their first flowers while the other ones we have recently planted are just germinating. We also paired the groundnuts with corn like we often do yearly and both are growing well.
We do not grow groundnuts for commercial purpose even though it is among some of the expensive staples here as many people make use of it for various purpose. Our peas are for family consumption alone and since manual labour is often deployed for the work, we find it difficult to sell what we work hard to grow. The unavailability of land, labour and machinery for working in the farm has always been my limitation each time I think about going into commercial farming.
Last year we had tried farming corn cassava and soya beans on a commercial leased land. We were only able to harvest corn and encountered some losses having hired tractors, labours and carried out some extensive work on our farms. The experience was worth it such that now we are quite aware of what to do for subsequent trial and a venture into full time commercial farming.
