Hello Hive
This is what our Cassava farm often looks like during the dry seasons. Cassava is one of the most important tuber crops that is usually grown in my country, it has so much value and can be processed into so many different type of food product.
We have other tubers that we often grow but unlike cassava you can prepare those tubers in just one or two form. Yams can be eaten fresh and pounded into swallow food and thesame goes for potatoes. Potatoes can be processed into swallow foods as well but that is after we have subjected it to fermentation.
For
For our cassava here you can prepare different varieties of cassava meals from different methods beginning with when they are still fresh or even after they have undergone fermentation. Their usefulness for preparing different varieties of dishes is the reason why they are an important agriculture products for us. Most cassava are stull Biannual crops. I remember when we started growing cassava as a kid they spend more years in the farm for their growth/life circle, some spent up to 4years but gradually we started getting agriculture engineered specie/seeds of cassava that has now reduced that long amount of years to at least two.
Last year, myself and a co-farmer wanted to plant some specie of the seeds that spends less than a year to grow but that wasn't a success and while we are still stuck with the biannual specie for now, important Care is taking to preserve the seeds during the dry seasons of the year
After work at the farm yesterday, we decided to check on Cassava farm and you can see the level of extreme dryness here. We have cleared off the entire farm of grasses to avoid forest fires from penetrating the farm. We observed so many dried leaves within the farm from neighboring trees creating another work for us here. Weeding and clearing of the farm of everything that can cause a fire is important. It is also important to keep away domestic animals that can come feed on the plants.
This cassava farm is quite far away from river source we would have attempted to irrigate the farm once or twice but it will be alot of work to attempt growing cassava in dry seasons like this. The most important activities here is to keep them alive for as long as the dry seasons lasts.
