Hello Hive
Did I tell you that these okro here are about 2weeks old already. There are various specie of okro plants out her both according to their seed types and the life cycle duration. Hopefully the one we have planted here should be the 40days okro type. Meaning that within just 40days which is a month and a week thereabout some okro fruits will already be on this plant and by they they will have grown to some stage close to being ready for harvest.
There are okro that takes at least 3months before any harvest can be made on them and I remember blogging about such types of okro some two years back when we tried planting such type of okro. That farming season didn't end well, there was drought at the time and since the specie is the type that takes that long period to produce it fruits, it wasn't able to survive the long droughts.
Planting such types of okro for gardening will not be economical. It will be spending alot of time in the farm making it an excessive expenditure to purchase fuel to water this crop.
This is why it is highly beneficial to plant the short life span okro specie especially for gardening activities like this. One will end up saving some capital rather than using a large sum of money to wet the crops over a long period of time.
But if in any case anyone wishes to plant such okro specie you can decide to plant it as mixed cropping among other crops. For instance let's say you planted some corn in the field, the okro can be planted alongside the corn for mixed cropping. They often grow well together with no challenge. Every plànt specie have their advantages and disadvantages. The best way to preserve the longer lifecycle apan okro is to continue growing them in this manner rather than allow that type go into extinction because we feel like a better specie is here to replace them.
