Hello Hive
Happy new day to us all, I hope that Monday wasn't so harsh and that we feel refreshed enough to face a other day. On a Tuesday like this we would be planting some corn at the farm today. I will be joining a neighbor to plant some corn seeds in her farm today.
This year has been a bit challenging for us regarding this work and a lot of people are begining to leave cultivation of the land out of their schedule to continue with planting exercise directly.
We weren't able to get labourers that will till the ground. It is an exercise we normally do yearly before planting. As soon as the rains begin, we clear out the land of previous year debir and then get labourers to till the ground preparing the ridges on which the crops will be planting.
Over the years a lot of people especially the younger generation are shying away from doing any farm work, everyone wants a white collar job or some other types of skiled labour rather than farming, hence it is completely difficult to get labourers to till the ground for us now so that we can plant our crops.
Looking at the turnout of things many people are begining to adopt this metbod, they just plant their crops directly into the ground without first tilling the ground.
Herbicides are sprayed into the ground to kill the weeds then with the aid of a hoe we plant the crops
Herbicides has been applied to the field and you can see how much the grasses have all burnt out now. The corn has been planted directly into the ground and while we were waiting for them to germinate, some have been picked up and eating by birds already.
A larger portion of the crops didn't germinate prompting us to plant a scarecrow in the field.
Since majority of the corn didn't germinate, they will be replanted again today. Hopefully we won't have any challenges growing crops this way.
