Hello Hive
A beautiful Tuesday morning to us all. I hope that Monday didn't stress us entirely and we are able to pull through the day successfully.
This is the situation of things we meet on ground this morning at the homestead, another time to start some manual weeding again. All the fluted pumpkins farm here are covered in grasses and the most challenging part is that the grasses are already choking the veggies.
How these fluted pumpkins moved from their very dark green coloration and are turning yellow within a twinkle of an eye is so surprising. This is how badly grasses affect plants and if this is not taking care of immediately it will choke the plants till it withers.
Weeding is the most dauting task in farming and most especially in gardening and vegetable growing like this type.
With cereals we can apply various herbicides to take care of the weeds, there are numerous less hazardous chemicals around that we often apply to control weeds but for vegetables it is preferable to carry out manual weeding for health reasons.
Vegetables are consumed directly unlike in cereals and now that there is no adequate rainfall to wet the crops from the top and we are using irrigation farming to wet mostly the ground, it is difficult to clean out the chemicals from some of the leaves before they are harvested and eating. For vegetables that have abundance of rainfall, it becomes easy for any chemicals to get washed off the the leaves or get diluted in the leaves of the plants to cause no harm
A majority of the farm is covered in grasses and you can see how the pumpkin leaves have changed drastically because of the presence of grasses.
No matter the amount of water being passed into these farm, the field is still looking dry. There is nothing compared to rainfall but since we cannot wait for a downpour at all times it is also necessary to grow some vegetables at this time of the dry seasons in to meet with up with a conatant supply of veggies that cannot be preserved freshly.
Regardless of how much I hate the labour of weeding there is no other way but to get busy and save this portion of the farm.
