Hello Hive.
Happy weekend to us all, it is yet another time to relax and get some some quality rest and I wish you all a peaceful and relaxing weekend.
Have you ever thought about raising some turkey birds and don't know how to go about it. Here is a perfect example of how we have done ours and you can learn from it.
First there are different breeds or can I say specie of turkey. There is the local type and then we have the Agric engineered ones. Before now we have grown only the local type by ourselves but discovered the low productivity status of those ones hence we decided to substitute them for this engineered or foreign ones as they are called. While raising the local type the layer only lay about 2-4eggs max in which they may chose to hatch only one or two of the four egg.
But for the Agric ones they can lay up to 10eggs and hatch everything. That the high level of productivity.
All of the pouts above were hatch about a month ago in which I blogged about it here.
Can you tell how much they have grown?
Well I tried to take a picture while whenever they are in the cake but I never got the chance to. And here they are above the roof of their cage. This is the size of their current growth stage from April 6th when I wrote about them.
It takes turkeys barely 8months for them to grow and start laying eggs. Within a year you can purchase a day old turkey, have it grow to a good large extent that it will start laying eggs and hacking poults right within thesame year.
Alot of care have gone into raising them from feeding to sanitation of their cage and vaccination.
Usually since they are the engineered ones it is best to feed them with their feed specifically formulated for them from the Agric store, that is where we have been purchaing their feeds from.
But once they have grown past some vulnerable stage, one can begin to feed them with local feeds to save cost. Although you have to bear in mind that the quality of their feeds will determine the quality of eggs they produce.
The new poults are barely two months old and we have will watch out for how they grow and when they will start laying eggs.
