It's a privilege to get witness another day on earth and I hope that we are all doing well.
I just got up lazily and trying to put up the necessary preparations for us to hit the road fo farm.
Gradually our groundnut harvest has lasted for about a week already and we are gradually coming to the end of the harvest. Luckily for us we were even able to utilize the harvested peas not just for food alone but to meet up with our other needs.
On the day we started the harvest, my baby sister who is in high school wasn't able to go to school due to non payment of her fees, she had followed us to farm for the harvest in the first few days.
Yesterday we found a buyer for our groundnuts as they are quite fresh and of the specie anyone would desire, the women in a trader in different kinds of grains, having showed interest in our nuts we sold out a bag to her which gave us some little cash to settle my sister's school fees, I was happy that this labour actually paid off.
We have grown a very tasty kind of groundnut specie that it's difficult for anyone to not eat it fresh and while harvest is ongoing, you will see people popping this nuts and eating them fresh. The weather got so hot that I had to pull of my clothes in the farm, I have to make the choice between enduring the heat with some clothes on or pulling them off to enjoy some fresh air with some insects bites..
Typical of farm and bush locations there are always blood sucking insects bothering everyone. We were lucky to have more hands assist us in the farm yesterday that we went home earlier than the usual time. One of my uncle's also came with his car to come transport the harvested nuts home for us. And of course he was also around to have his own share of the harvest.
Harvest is the only farm work I see a lot of people show interest in, moreso because it's time to eat, virtually everyone eats groundnut both the freshly harvested ones like this and the dried and preserved ones.
In the previous years we have had so much nuts to harvest in abundance and sometimes when we need some cash we sell these crops and use them to settle other bills.
I'm happy that this came in handy to help my sister get back to school.
We already have some knowledge and expertise with growing crops and with all my visions of creating a job for myself around agriculture I hope that someday I would be able to engage in commercial farmer and growing more healthy crops that can feed more people.
The labour in farm gets lesser and lesser when we have the right machines for assist us with some task . For instead I just realized that there is a machine that can be used for this particular harvest. Using machines for farming can make farming more pleasurable and less of a burden when these machines are used wisely.
