Hello Hive
We woke up to the blessings of rainfall today after a good period of silence. In fact People were begining to get worried to the extent that a concerned fellow had to post it on his status regarding the scarcity and inconsistency of the downpour for this year. The rains stated very late and rather than been consistent in this month of May for farming to continue properly the downpour hasn't been consistent. Regardless people are planting and planting in hope.
Some have planted corn and I showed us how we planted some sweet potatoes yesterday.
Here now these are our groundnut that we are preparing for planting. Groundnut is often planted from the months of June upward.
The seeds we will be planting are the ones we have preserved from our last year harvest.
Can you believe that these groundnuts have been in storage for a year now with no sign of disease or pest attact. So far peanuts here are the only crops that we have successfully kept safe for a year or two without any sign of damage.
You can't store corn without some preservatives and it's thesame story with most grains, but seeing groundnuts like this, it's a bit surprising
So long as these groundnuts remain in their pods, they are absolutely safe, though I'm not sure of their safety if they were peeled and kept without the pods.
Since we are preparing them to plant them we have to peel off the pod before planting time is set.
Most people prefer to fall them peanuts while I call them groundnuts, we basically have local names we call most foods here and some names are from our local language.
Groundnuts have so many beneficial use for us thats why we make it a routine to plant them yearly.
Take a look at these spicy and delicious crunchies made from groundnuts I can eat a whole house full of them 😂😂 I had to fight myself off the addiction to eating these. A lot of people have argued that groundnuts contains cholesterol in the oil and can cause us sickness if overeating but this is absolutely not true. A simple Google search can show you how safe groinduts are.
We use them for varieties of things like soups, snacks and even foods for our animals. Poultry feeds and animals food often contains some groundnuts as a source of protein for them. Our goats eats a lot of the vegetative parts of groinduts while they are still in the farm and their addiction to eating the seeds is out of the world 😂😂 Everybody loves Groundnut including animal, that are some very important seeds to us and this is the reason we plant them yearly.
