Hello Hive
Happy new day to us all, I hope that we are all having a good time. Yesterday we went out to clear out the grasses already bothering the planted scotch bonnet pepper. As it was time to do some manual weeding in the farm.
The scotch bonnet growth has been looking a little bit slow for me but since it is the dry season, I believe that the crops are trying their best. There are two specie of pepper here and the other type doesn't need to grow really big before they start producing seeds.
Grasses are one of the things that affect plant growth and can cause them to start having some yellow leaves and eventually wither off. Since these grasses are all coiled up around the pepper there is no way we can use a hoe to weed them off, the best move was to use our hands work weeding while protecting the pepper.
Upon completion of the task, we passed the pipes and watered the crops. While weeding you have to be conscious not to uproot the plants or expose it's root as we gently pulled off grasses around them and if the root happens to get exposed, just cover them up with sand and the irrigation is a good way to seal things up. Because the soil here is a good quality loamy-clay we haven't added any fertilizers on these yet
This is why the height of the plants are looking like what they are currently. Fertilizer grown crops often grow taller and bigger within a short time frame especially vegetables, they carry very big leaves that have been expanded by the effect of the fertilizer, all of these may look inviting but we must be careful to grow something of quality rather than quantity air something appealing to the eyes. Our health is important and growing and eating too many unhealthy food substances may have long time health effect.
