I want to use this medium to greet all great Hivers. How has been your day so far, hope you are all doing good? I'm positive minded that it's all well and fine.
The purpose of this post is to generally talk about the change in weather and its effects on the Broiler chicken birds most especially when they are above three to four weeks. The change in weather that I wanted to talk about is literally "the harmattan". The harmattan period is a period that comes slightly after the rain have stopped raining either in September or October. Immediately after the rain stops in October, we mostly experience slight heat period but very short one before it comes the harmattan period. Harmattan period spans from the Month of November ranging to February the following year.
Furthermore, harmattan period comes with lot of things. Things like heat with dry cold, the period is always very sunny in the afternoon but very cold at night and also it's a period that we experience total dryness, total dryness such that no water. This is the period that people who don't have good water system or supply suffer.
The effects of harmattan on Broiler birds and the remedies to ease the effects.
Since the harmattan period comes with lot of heat and dryness this have effect on Broiler birds if there's no good ventilation. The effects of the heat that harmattan brought usually makes the Birds to feel uncomfortable, make them pant and it might leads to high temperature, heat stress, BP or even leads to mortality. The worst part is that this harmattan period that comes with all sort of things affect human being talkless of animal. But there are ways that these issues can be controlled which they are
- Make sure there's enough ventilation for the birds. Though during this harmattan period, the birds prefer cool shade to breeze.
Another way to control the effects of heat is by restraining from overcrowding your pen with too many birds. Work with your space.
You can also adopt the system of wetting the roofing sheets to cool the heat that the roofing sheets have accumulated.
