I went to do some light weeding in mine maize farmt this morning, thou it was to weed around the Cassava plant in-between the maize stems. Last time I mentioned wanting to leave us the maize till it drys off before I harvest it.
But still rain has been falling consistently of recent, no day goes by with it falling, this has slow off the maize drying off it on its stem. I would have harvest it but due to the weather, the sun hardly comes out this days, so there isn't an avenue to spread it out to dry, that was one of the reasons why I left it on its stem in the first place.
I went round it and I can see that within two to three weeks if the sun heat is consistent, it will be ready for harvest and I would be able to get it ready for those things I intend to use it for.
Majorly its for my family consumption, I intend to make it into Maize Flour for my local food called tuwo if you eat it with gbegiri, also Pap that is Ogi and also Ewa and Egbo. This will supplement my family food store and help reduce the cost spent on feeding the family.
The cassava is doing fine as well, thou the maize I am yet to harvest is hindering it from spreading well, but soon the cassava will have the heaps to itself alone. I am looking forward to harvesting it sometime next year.
Farming isn't easy when you dont have the needed machinery to make the work be done with ease. I plucked some maize just to make a delicacy of Maize with Beans, you can join me later in the evening if you are less busy...
