Hello everyone it's good to be back in the community after a short break, have been busy lately work has been very demanding but then I had to squeeze time out of no time for me to come about with this.
This post is about my newly cultivated yam farm. After harvesting my yam last month, even though it was not so good enough for a farmer, the yams had a stunted growth. I was not happy at all with the harvest. This made me leave the location and move to a new site. This time I made my consultation very well to know if the new place will be good and bring forth good result, which I was rest assured that the place is good for farming.
A big thanks to my students who helped me with the clearing and cultivation of heaps. We do have a set aside day for labour activity (a day set aside for cleaning the school premises, working on the school farm and also helping teachers to do some work on their farm).
In total I think I have upto 250 heaps. I bought 200 cut setts and fortunately, I was gifted the remaining 50 pieces by a generous friend.
The clearing and planting process is not an easy thing to do but when I look at what I will be gaining afterwards I had to bear the pain and stress.
Now that have planted the yam, the next thing is proper monitoring and maintenance, doin the right thing at the right time, clearing the weeds whenever thay are growing in between the heaps, mulching, installing sticks in between the heaps etc.
I also worked on my cassava and beans farm, to do some clearing of weeds. Having said it sometime ago that some people entered my farm to destroy all the maize inside my farm. I couldn't just cry, I would have. but a man should not be found crying.
Thanks for stopping by.
