Lots of prep work is going into this one acre area where we are going to be planting garlic in a few months. It has been tilled half a dozen times by now and with every pass I pull up more rocks. The tiller does not remove these, so I needed a machine that could. I rented a machine called a "harley rake" or known as a "power rake". It has a hydraulic spinning wheel that picks up the rocks and such.
Running it through the field will remove the rocks for me, and then I can get back to tilling.
Before I started I got a picture of what the field looks like.. We can see grass coming up along with many rocks.
The rake will remove all of this.
With the machine attached to my skidsteer, I go across the field and pick up all the rocks.
This machine is pretty cool, the skidsteer has to work hard to push it so it get pretty heavy when its plowing all that rocky dirt.
And the final result of one pass, we can hardy see any rocks at all. And all the grass has been removed as well. Now I have some rocky piles at the edge of the field I will need to deal with. But at least they are out of the planting area now. I may do another pass to pick up even smaller rocks, but for now a big difference can be seen in using it just one time.
