One thing for sure about raising broiler birds is that the marketing as aspect is not that easy compared to raising layers birds unless you have been in the business for a long time. Since raising broiler birds is mainly for meat production and one really depends on the weight of the birds to have a good outcome and make a huge profits.
But like I said earlier, it is not easy to market broiler birds especially if you're a first time starter just like me unless you have already made a great connection with some commercial frozen store before you started this poultry farm business.
While it is very important to already make people aware of your goods before you started, this will give you free access to marketing as you will be able to sell off your birds at once and make you profits. But raising broiler is different compared to layers birds, it is easy for someone who is in to eggs production to market as soon the birds started laying eggs as you will even have clients making orders and different customers patronizing and before you know it, you have become a well-known.
Unlike raising broiler birds, you will have to wait until the birds is about to reach harvest time which is six weeks before you started harvesting and if you're lucky enough you may run to a perfect timing customer.
I discussed in one of my blog that keeping broiler birds for more than six weeks is not profitable and a waste of resources but I must confess that it is not easy to sell off your birds at once when they reach six weeks due to the market demand.
The best strategy I used while selling my birds is by selling the higher numbers of my birds to commercial frozen store which I believe will cover all the expenses spent on the birds and sell the rest live to the customers to have a maximum profits. One of the best way to make a perfect profits on your birds is when you sell the chicken live to the customers unlike when sell it per kilogram (kg) after being slaughtered and some parts would have been removed when selling to the frozen store. One of the challenges I went through when my birds reach six weeks old was that I am unable to sell them off because the market is not promising and I have to wait and keep them till they reach seven weeks old before I was able to sell some of them to commercial frozen store due to the pressure of maintaining them which is mainly because of the high rate in which they consumed feed and I think it will be better to sell some of the birds off if not, all my profits will be used to buy more feeds.
Though I have the chance to sell all my birds to commercial frozen store at once but I opted not to because of the profit I will make while selling the birds live to the customers compared to selling them off to frozen store. After selling 35 out 50 birds, I am more at ease because before I sold them they birds have already started eating more than 10 bags of feed which I budget for them initially. But right now, I feel no pressure and the eldil Mubarak festive season celebrate by Muslims for the completion of Ramadan which is around the corner is more of the reason why I have to keep some of my birds. I have been able to sell nine out of the remaining 15 birds at a certain fixed price which is more profitable than selling them off to commercial frozen store and I believe that by the time I sell off the rest of my birds my gain will be higher.
Probably in two to three days, I believe that my pen would have been empty and I would be welcoming some new chicks to my pen sooner and I will make sure to keep you posted.
