Hi Hivers,
It's with great pleasure that am welcoming everyone to my blog and I hope you're all doing well and having a great day. I will like to share with you some vital informations regarding keeping your broiler birds for a long time and the reason why you should opt against it especially if you're not a subsistence farmer.
My birds will be 6 weeks in coming days which is equivalent to 42 days and that is the most advisable period for you as a farmer raising broiler birds to sell your birds off. Rasing broiler birds starting from a day old to 42 days is the best thing and it is enough for you as a farmer to make your profits within that short time.
I realized this fact when am talking about my broiler birds with one of my friends that have been long in this business and have more experience and I later came to understand that it is true to not hold on to the broiler birds for a long time because if you do so, then prompt to go through the situations stated below 👇..
Like I said earlier that keeping broiler birds is not advisable since it is a waste of resources in sense that, the more you keep your birds more than 6 weeks then the more you're at loss.
One of the most important about raising broiler birds is that their growth is between from day one to 42 days which is 6 weeks because the pace and rate in which the develop at that moment is enormous and likewise is the rate at which they gain weight. So anything above 6 weeks means the rate at which they gain weight will drop and their appetite for feeding is growing larger, which means they will require more feeds as they continue to grow week by week and this means you're already spending the part of your profit to maintain them.
Though there may be a situation in which you will want to keep your birds more than 6 weeks, maybe you're waiting for a festive season and your birds will be above 6 weeks before the time. That may be a good reason to keep your birds and maybe the sales is not promising due to high numbers of people that are now in poultry farm business. But to prevent your birds from eating off your profits when you can't sell them off live, it will be better to kill them all and sell it to the commercial cold room.
The more you keep them the more their leverage goes down because at that particular point, your just trying to maintain their weight and since they will be consuming more feeds then it means this is not advisable since it's eating off your profits.
And note that raising broiler birds is sprint race since they have a short life span to develop and grow quickly because of their genetics factor. And since broiler birds are meant for meat production and as farmer all what you depends on is their weight and you can acquire the average weight of broiler birds within 6 weeks of raising them and make a good profits, but that is if you properly feed them and do all the necessary things to keep them healthy.
My birds will be six weeks in three days and I am already feeling the pressure because the rate at which them consume feed each week is increasing and their feed is kind of expensive so I will be glad if I can be able to sell some of them off in coming days since I have it in mind to keep some for Ramadan celebration coming up.
