It's with great pleasure that am welcoming everyone to my blog and I hope you're all doing well and having a great weekend. I will like to share with you all the situation that I found myself because of my poultry farm business that doesn't go as planned.
One of the greatest challenges attached to investing in broilers chicken is marketing unlike the layers bird which is very easy to gain awareness because in as much people knew that you're in for eggs production, then they started to patronized you. But this is different when it comes to broilersbird which is meant for meat production as you have to persuade people and convinced them that your product is amazing. Even at that, their are still some challenges like the am going through right now. The fact that a single big poultry farm is selling up to 15k birds at the rate of #1,400 per kg compared to small scale farmer like me that only have 75 birds in pen and the problem is that I can't afford to sell my birds as low as that because if I do then their won't be any profits left for me and that's the reason why I have been patiently feeding my birds prior to the time the big poultry farm will sell off it birds.
Before raising broilersbird, it is very important to first consider the numbers of day old broiler chicks you want to bring in and know your budget for that certain numbers of birds because that is what I usually do and my target is to raise them for six weeks and sell them off so as to not faced with pressure later on. But due to the market issues and the fact that I couldn't sell my birds at six weeks old, below are the things am going through.
Faced with pressure
Like I said earlier that irrespective of the numbers of birds am raising, my target is always to raise them for six weeks and sell them off but when I couldn't be able to sell them off at that fixed certain time, the pressure to keep them in good shape keep rising and leads to..
Spending out of budget
The more you hold on to the birds means you have to keep feeding them to maintain their weight and keep them in good shape and due to the fact that you have already feed them with the already feeds budgeted for them, then you have no choice than to raise funds and keep buying more feeds until you're able to sell them off.
Keeping their pen clean become stressful
Unlike when your birds are within the age of a week old to six weeks, I can say it is not that stressful to keep their pen clean by changing their litters with new one. Though their pen becomes more rough as they keep growing each weeks because their feed consumption rate increase as they grow and because of this, they started excreting bigger and watery feces and it's become more challenging to keep their pen clean. Keeping the birds pen clean is necessary for a good production but it is very stressful. Unlike before that I used to clean my birds pen twice a week, it's now become more stressful for me as I have to clean their pen four to five times in a week.
Profits Keep Decreasing
When you're not able to sell your birds on time then the amount of profits you ought to receive keep decreasing because you have already started spending out of your budget and when you keep buying feeds to sustain the birds, it also means the birds are eating off your profits as well and that's why holding on to broilersbird for a long time is a waste of resources and not profitable.
Affect Other Expenses
When you're not able to sell off your broilersbird on time which leave you with no choice than to keep hold of them. It becomes more tough for you as a farmer because you can't afford to keep them without feeding them. So in lieu of this, you started using the money meant for other expenses to buy them more feeds and it even become difficult for you to eat the way you want because your priority will be on the birds to not loss weight which may affect your profits and because this you priorities feeding your broilersbird over yours. This is one of the challenges am facing right now with my poultry farm business and I believe with time everything will be alright.
