It was only yesterday, when I walked around in my sleeveless undershirt, almost considering to take it off, whilst working on our land.
I 'complained' to Clare that the (Winter) socks that I had picked to wear, that morning, were way too warm.
Now it's one day later and I'm back to wearing two warm sweaters and a winter hat, once again.
Our cherry tree finally started blossoming and the smell of its flower is intoxicating(ly) nice.
Our medium sized wood stove is trying hard to - and only partially succeeding in - warm(ing) up our humid, cool bedroom.
Clare made us a hearty pumpkin-potato-bean soup for lunch. This temporarily warmed us up a lot, especially eating it in front of the fire. It tasted extra nice with some yoghurt, soy sauce, grana padano and scaldelli.
Meanwhile the rain and wind just continue doing their thing outside the humble abode that we call our house, these days.
A small amount of raindrops makes its way through our roof and bedroom ceiling, dripping on towels placed at the foot of our bed.
And just now, the rumbling of thunder made Clare "Oh wow! out loud.
Meanwhile I am thinking of having to put my wellies and rainjacket on to go to the cantina below the house and get us some more firewood.
I am glad though that I decided to bring a young, fallen oak tree to that same storage room, yesterday afternoon and that I hand-sawed about half of it in woodstove sized logs.
some of our olive trees, as seen through our foggy bedroom window
I literally managed to bring the wood in, just before the rain (really) started.
Since then, it has basically rained (almost) non stop.
And - if we can trust the weather forecast ( we usually can't ), it will keep going for a couple more days.
Fingers crossed that our roof keeps holding up as nicely as it does now and that our recently created front garden ( covering our terrazzo and doubling as a waterproofing for the other cantina below ) doesn't wash away. 🤞
One thing's for sure though. Our old well is finally filling up nicely :^)
Sending love from the Italian countryside, 650 meters above sea level, where and I live outside a borgo with 500 people, leading a simple ( but challenging ) off-grid life on a micro budget, since July last year.
