Year 3125
Apparently, they made it.
Beat-up sneakers. Size 11.
Soles worn down, laces knotted three times because they kept snapping.
Found in a glass case under a label that said:
“Artifact: Everyday Survivor Footwear – circa 21st century.”
They treated them like history.
Like relics.
Like I wasn’t just trying to walk to work, chase the bus, stand for hours, live life without falling apart.
Next to the shoes was a note.
Somebody wrote:
“Belonged to an unnamed laborer from the early 2000s.
Evidence suggests long hours, limited mobility, and daily endurance.”
That’s how they summed it up.
Not “father.”
Not “artist.”
Not “person who kept going.”
Just a “laborer.”
Somebody who survived the grind of a system that didn’t care if your shoes lasted, just that you did.
Funny thing is, I almost threw them away.
Now they’re in a museum.
Today’s theme asked us to imagine a future artifact.
I didn’t have to look far.
Sometimes survival leaves a mark.
