Hearty greetings and happy new week to all hivers all over. It is so good to be sharing with you all again today.
Neighbours are sometimes a blessing and some are just walking curses. There are neighbours that you will live with and you will literally feel like you are living with angels but I cannot say the same for some kind of neighbours.
Now there is a middle group of neighbours that can borrow for Africa. They are blessed from heaven with the grace to borrow. They have noshame and that is what irks me about such neighbours.
I had such a neighbour and I must confess that I felt disgusted having him as my neighbour. This guy's name is Simeon and he was a sweet talker. When he wants to borrow, his wristwatch suddenly stops working so that he won't know what time of day it is. He would come as early as 4am and even as late as 12 midnight.
He is well known in that compound and many neighbours have given up on him but me o, I was a good girl and so I couldn't just abandon him. He would come today to borrow matches. Tomorrow he will come to borrow a broom. The day after, he will come for toothpaste.
One day I asked him 'Bros, can't you buy these things and have them rather than borrowing from neighbours?”
He looked me eyeball to eyeball and replied ” it just got finished now my sister. God bless you”.
I looked at him as he walked away with the spoonful of salt on his palms that he had just finished borrowing and shook my head in amazement.
What surprised me about his behaviour was that he wears the latest clothes, he sprays expensive perfumes and dates very expensive girls. Soon, I began to monitor his spending technique because it was odd to me that a guy who worked doesn't have certain home necessities like broom, mops, pots, matches, spoons, plates, toothpaste, detergent and more. He would always borrow from one neighbour or the other and I was his primary target.
So one period, the good girl in me began to rebel and then I began to monitor how he spends his money and that was when I found out that he collects his salary and then goes straight to Yaba market to buy clothes, shoes, shoe polish, belts, hand beads, perfume, body spray, body most, cream and necklace. By the time he gets home, the money left on him will only be enough to get a little food and transportation fare. So he would borrow things from neighbours.
After this discovery, I decided to close up my good girl vibes. The next time he came knocking, I refused to give him anything outrightly. Panicking, he asked and I was honest with him as I laid out all I have discovered about his spending.
His excuse for such extravagance was for packaging. I looked at him and said *”let packaging give you what you are looking for then””. He walked away sad and never knocked on my door again.
