I had a funny and strange occurrence yesterday.
It was around noon when I was less busy, and I decided to go through some accounts on my WhatsApp list that post "interesting" things. By interesting, I mean things that interest me, especially humorous and funny content, because I boldly kick against reading motivational quotes. I viewed a lot of statuses, and I also viewed some uninteresting ones because I was just flipping through everything.
"Hello, you viewed my status today. What happened? You don’t view my status from month to month." One of my friends, who posts her ladies’ clothing business on WhatsApp, quickly messaged me as soon as she saw that I viewed her status. I was surprised to know that she has been taking note of people who view her posts and those who do not.
As it is with me at this stage in my life, the only thing that will make me take viewing everyone’s status on my contact list seriously is if I am being paid for it. I mean, if I were to be paid by WhatsApp for the views I give people per day. There was a time, way back when Ponzi schemes were very trendy, when we participated in one that calculated payments based on the views we got on our WhatsApp status posts. That was the only time I took it seriously to view people’s statuses because it made them view mine as well.
I don’t know about you, but if I were to view every status posted by every contact on my list, I would be spending up to 5GB of data daily. As it is now, WhatsApp has turned into TikTok, where people post videos as if they are being paid for it, except for those who are actually verified. Imagine a situation where I have to spend 5GB of my data just to view endless statuses containing videos of lip gloss sales, eyelash fixing, and so many other feminine-related things, because almost all the ladies on my list do sales, and WhatsApp status is their office.
Thanks for reading.
