Today around 7pm, my former neighbour came around to collect his phone, which he had dropped with me to help him charge since I put on my generator regularly for work. He sat down and told me to guess, but I couldn’t come up with anything reasonable as to the news he wanted to share at that moment.
He said he had broken up with his one-month-old girlfriend and had collected back the last 10,000 naira he gave her.
"You collected back your money in cash? How did you do that? What magic did you use?" The whole thing sounded strange to me because it is very hard to retrieve money sent to a girl in a relationship once it ends, not to talk of collecting the money in cash.
He went on to narrate that before he went to her place that particular evening, he had already told the girl to arrange the money and give it back to him, and if she didn’t do that, it meant the town would declare a state of emergency due to what he would do. Yes, he threatened her, and that was it. It worked for him.
His story still sounded unreal to me because it is almost never possible for girls in Nigeria these days to agree to return money a guy sent to them. It only happens when the lady is rich or from a well-to-do family, not the type that are never full… always hungry. Lol.
Well, the money he collected back that day felt like a gift to him. Even though he made threats, he never expected to get the money back.
