As I mentioned in my post yesterday, last night and I got to drive a short distance away from our house to watch our niece play volleyball in the district tournament. Unfortunately, they lost the match in straight sets to a team that they had struggled against all season. Despite that, our niece played phenomenally. As I said yesterday, she is in the libero position on the team and she is an absolute defensive beast.
It was amazing watching her run from one part of the court to another to back up her teammates. I lost track of how many times she saved a point from being scored due to an insane dig. It was honestly poetry in motion. She is already exploring her options to play at the university level and I can't wait to see where she lands.
It wasn't the ending we hoped for, but she gave 110% on the court and at the end of the day that is all we can ask for.
You might wonder why I am so excited if they lost their match. Well, that would be because College Basketball season has officially started as of this past Monday. With the Michigan State Spartans absolutely sucking at football this year, basketball season couldn't start soon enough.
There were 19 top 25 basketball games played on Monday night for the opening of the 2025/2026 season. While most all of them were massive cupcake games where a tier 1 team put the hammer down on some rinky dink local university, there were a couple upsets that prove just how untrustworthy the preseason rankings can be.
Michigan State is ranked number 22 in the preseason and they were able to take down Colgate College 80 to 69.
Hats off to Number 13 Arizona who got the big upset over number 3 Florida 93 to 87.
Other than that, things went pretty much the way you would expect. I drives me a bit crazy to see that Michigan is ranked number 7 in the preseason, but their 121 to 78 win over Oakland University proves that they might be a tough opponent in the Big 10 this year.
Pretty much every other game went about the way you would expect on Monday night. The big team destroyed the smaller team.
Tuesday night there were four games in the top 25 with none of them being upsets. Wednesday night there was only one game in the top 25 and it was number 23 Creighton over South Dakota 92 to 76.
Tonight there are four games with every single one of them being a cupcake game. Friday night we have nine games with a huge match up between number 19 Kansas and number 25 North Carolina. Definitely keep an eye on that game.
Saturday Michigan State is back in action against a number 14 Arkansas team which should be an amazing test for the Spartans before conference play starts. Also be sure to checkout the number 15 Alabama versus number 5 St. John's game.
It's going to be hard to split my time between college football, the NFL, and college basketball now that all three are in full swing, but I will do my best!
