I'm pretty excited, I get to head to a nearby town tonight to watch my niece play probably the final game of her high school volleyball career. It's been pretty amazing watching her get started on local club teams and work her way up to the travel circuit and also the varsity team for her school. The growth has been amazing and though she never had the height advantage that some volleyball players do, she makes up for it by being a defensive beast in the libero position for her team.
In fact, she wasn't always in that position, but the previous person wasn't performing well, so the coach made some changes and slid our niece into that spot for a match. She did quite well, and the next day the other girl quit the team, so it became a permanent position for her. Well deserved and well earned!
I'm so proud of her. I still remember helping teach her to ride a two wheel bike when she was just a little spitfire of a kid!
As I said, they have a district tournament game tonight against their rival across the river. It's a tough team, but this game is at a neutral site, so hopefully that will give them a bit of an edge.
So American Football also happened this weekend and I have to admit, I am not as excited about it as I have been in the past. Thankfully, the Disney/YouTube TV dispute didn't have much impact on the games this weekend, but performance was definitely an issue for my favorite team.
Baltimore took down the Dolphins 28 to 6, Denver scored another win beating Houston 18 to 15, and Pittsburgh handed the Colts their second loss of the season beating them 27 to 20.
San Francisco added to the Giants woes beating them 34 to 24, New England beat the Falcons 24 to 23, and the Chargers took down the Titans 27 to 20. Probably not that surprising given the Titans only have one win this season.
Carolina had a huge win over Green Bay 16 to 13, and the Lions shot themselves in the foot losing to Minnesota 27 to 24. I wanted to be happy about that Green Bay loss, but it doesn't really matter with the Detroit loss to Minnesota. That still leaves the Lions in second place in the NFC Central behind the Packers. I really feel like they shot themselves in the foot in their Minnesota game. They just looked horrible. I've never been a huge Goff fan, but I was willing to overlook that based on his numbers. Sadly, all of his faults came rushing to the forefront this weekend. It was embarrassing to watch. I feel bad for the fans who made the drive down to Detroit to watch it in person.
Chicago keep piecing things together with a 47 to 42 offensive onslaught against Cincinnati. The Rams hammered the Saint 34 to 10, and Jacksonville beat the Raiders 30 to 29 in overtime.
Finally, I am happy to say Buffalo took down Kansas City 28 to 21, Seattle beat Washington 38 to 14, and Arizona tamed the Cowboys 27 to 17.
The Jets and the Titans are tied in the AFC for last place with one win a piece. Indy, Denver, and New England all sit at the top with a 7 - 2 record.
Over in the NFC, New Orleans sits alone in last place with a 1 - 8 record. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay, Seattle, The Rams, and Philly are all tied at the top with a 6 and 2 record.
That's the recap for this week. Check back next week for more!
