Among the thing I have learned as a football fan over the years is that some managers naturally command respect the moment they walk into a dressing room. Xabi Alonso is one of those names. Seeing reports that Chelsea players are already backing him as negotiations continue honestly feels exciting, especially considering the uncertainty the club has faced in recent seasons.

Alonso represents more than just another managerial appointment for me. He represents calmness, intelligence, leadership, and a winning mentality. During his playing days, he was admired everywhere he went, right from Liverpool to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. He was not just a great midfielder but he was a leader who understood the game at the highest level. That kind of experience is something Chelsea desperately needs currently.
What stands out most is the report that the squad sees him as someone with unquestionable authority. In modern football, players don’t easily give that level of respect unless the manager truly deserves it. Chelsea is full of talented players, but talent alone is never enough. The team needs direction, discipline, and a clear identity again. Alonso looks like someone capable of rebuilding that bonds between the players, the fans, and the club’s ambitions.
And I also find it more interesting that Alonso reportedly wants a strong say in Chelsea’s transfer policy before coming into agreement with the job. Personally, I think that's the right approach. Too many clubs make the mistake of signing players without fully aligning them with the manager’s vision and which Chelsea especially this new owners fell into that category. If Chelsea are willing to give him that trust, it could finally bring stability after years of constant changes.
Even though nothing is officially confirmed yet, but the signs look positive. With the FA Cup final around the corner, it seems like the appointment process could move quickly afterward. Chelsea fans and someone like me have been craving hope and consistency for a long time, and maybe, just maybe, Xabi Alonso could be the beginning of a fresh chapter at Stamford Bridge.
Football is always full of surprises, but this is one move that actually feels like it makes sense.
