Everyone knows Hoi An is a magical combination of charm and history, art and nature. But did you know that the city's handicrafts have been admired for thousands of years? Ancient ceramics from Hoi An have been found as far afield as Egypt, rescued amongst other treasures from shipwrecks!
In the past, Hoi An also had a different name. At one point in its storied history it was called Faifo, but no one is 100% sure why. Some linguistics experts think it meant "A place where Japanese live" because back then the town was a popular spot on the trade route to Japan. One thing is certain, regardless of its name, Hoi An has always been a much-loved destination for locals and foreigners alike.
