Festivities - What festivities do you celebrate in December? How do you celebrate them? With whom do you celebrate? What traditions do you have to celebrate it?
In December we celebrate Christmas. Christmas which stands for "Mass on Christ Day '' is an annual celebration which prepares us for Christ's second coming. We celebrate Christ nativity on 25th December.
HOW DO WE CELEBRATE THEM
We celebrate Christ's birth in so many different ways. For me, I begin my celebration with spiritual preparation to receive Christ on 25th. We call this Season of Advent which commemorates Christ's second coming. I celebrate this by engaging myself in spiritual activities, things pleasing to God and works of his kingdom.
Spiritual preparation for Christ coming involves doing the will of God, obeying His commandments and doing what the beatitudes say. Things to avoid include bearing grudges, keeping malice, unwillingness to forgive and putting all hope on material things.
As much as I prepare myself spiritually,I also get involved in the physical preparation by attending Christmas parties, visiting the orphanage homes with little present I have just to make sure I make a few souls smile, attend Carol night and decorating my house.
WITH WHOM DO YOU CELEBRATE IT
I celebrate my Christmas yearly with my family, my relatives and friends. My parents do invite all our relatives so that we have a full house. Although most times, we don't get all of them to honor the invite but the house is always fun filled with lots of entertainment and eating with drinking. Christmas for me every year is what I part for to be like my every day because of the excitement, happiness and the lively nature of the celebration.
WHAT TRADITION DO YOU CELEBRATE IT WITH
In my family, we have a special way or should I say a special traditional approach we adopt every 25th December. I have a brother done on that date, so what do we do? Few days before Christmas, we were seven in number including my parents.
So, we all write the kind of Christmas decoration we want, some write Christmas trees, some glittering lights, some just beautiful sets of flower wreath, etc. Whatever brother that was born on 25th December picks is what we are using as our home decor. It's always a fun moment as we all will be begging him to pick ours even without him knowing what we wrote and folded for him to make a pick.
Then mum and dad buy as many gifts as possible, then on the 25th, he's been dressed in Santa Claus attire, we sing in different Christmas songs, light up the room with different jokes, stories, impromptu drama, etc. Then, our family Santa Claus distributes different gifts to us. After that, we went out to an eatery and had a family treat.
