Not having experience as voters in elections does not mean that students at SMA Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe are blind about politics. Some of them, whether they will be first-time voters in the 2024 elections or not, understand local and national political conditions. Incessant reporting about elections and politics in the media, including on social media, has made various information about the election reach their ears.
Just listen to their questions in the meeting with the Head of the Legal, Prevention, Community Participation and Community Relations (HPPH) Division of the Lhokseumawe City Panwaslih, Ayi Jufridar. The students, among other things, asked why the elections in Aceh were different from those in other regions in Indonesia with the presence of local political parties.
“In other areas, there are no local parties. "Why is it different," asked Agam Syawal in a meeting which took place in the Lhokseumawe 1 State High School Hall, Saturday (4/11/2023).
There was also a question from Fayad about legislative candidates who had criminal histories, "Why can legislative candidates like this pass?"
Meanwhile, Muhariska asked what the Panwaslih's duties were in the 2024 elections. Another critical question came from Nazwa who mentioned that many voters did not use their right to vote because the candidates they chose were involved in many corruption cases.
“Will we be called apathetic if we don't vote? Isn't it better to be apathetic than to have unscrupulous officials?” Nazwa asked. The question also came from Naila who touched on why the regional elections and general elections were not held simultaneously. Questions about elections and democracy also came from Daffa, Anya, Aqila, and several other students. The large number of students who asked questions proves how enthusiastic they are about welcoming the 2024 elections.
Deputy Principal for Curriculum at SMA Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe, Aiza Fitriana, S.Si., M.Pd, said that most of the students who attended would be first-time voters in the 2024 Election. "Outreach activities like this are very helpful in opening children's minds. about elections and democracy," he said.
Member of the Lhokseumawe City Panwaslih, Ayi Jufridar, said that the elections in Aceh were a little different with the participation of local political parties which does not exist in other provinces in Indonesia. The existence of local political parties is an implementation of the Helsinki MoU and Law Number 11/2006 concerning Aceh Government.
However, the participation of local political parties in Aceh is only for the election of members of the DRPK (district/city) and Aceh DPR only. Meanwhile, to be able to nominate as a member of the DPR-RI, local political party cadres can be affiliated with a national political party.
Ayi Jufridar teaches students to be concerned about the election process and to report suspected violations. According to him, election supervisors are at the village level and will also be at every polling station.
He hopes that students who will become first-time voters will participate in monitoring the voting and vote counting process to support clean, honest and fair election stages as mandated by law.[]
Melek Politik Sejak Dini, Sosialisasi Pengawasan Partisipatif Bagi Pemilih Pemula
Belum memiliki pengalaman sebagai pemilih dalam pemilu, bukan berarti siswa SMA Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe buta tentang politik. Sebagian dari mereka, baik yang akan menjadi pemilih pemula dalam Pemilu 2024 maupun belum, paham tentang kondisi politik lokal dan nasional. Pemberitaan tentang pemilu dan politik yang gencar di media, termasuk di media sosial, membuat beragam informasi tentang pemilu mampir juga di telinga mereka.
Dengar saja pertanyaan-pertanyaan mereka dalam pertemuan dengan Ketua Divisi Hukum, Pencegahan, Partisipasi Masyarakat, dan Hubungan Masyarakat (HPPH) Panwaslih Kota Lhokseumawe, Ayi Jufridar. Para siswa antara lain mempertanyakan mengapa pemilu di Aceh berbeda dengan di daerah lain di Indonesia dengan kehadiran partai politik lokal.
“Kalau di daerah lain ‘kan tidak ada partai lokal. Kenapa bisa berbeda,” tanya Agam Syawal dalam pertemuan yang berlangsung di Aula SMA Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe, Sabtu (4/11/2023).
Ada juga pertanyaan dari Fayad tentang caleg yang memiliki riwayat kriminal, “Mengapa caleg seperti ini bisa lolos?”
Sedangkan Muhariska mempertanyakan apa saja tugas Panwaslih dalam Pemilu 2024. Pertanyan kritis lainnya datang dari Nazwa yang menyinggung banyak pemilih tidak menggunakan hak pilih karena calon yang dipilih banyak tersangkut kasus korupsi.
“Apakah kalau tidak memilih kita disebut apatis? Bukankah lebih baik apatis daripada memiliki pejabat yang tidak bermoral?” tanya Nazwa. Pertanyaan juga datang dari Naila yang menyinggung tentang pilkada dan pemilu kenapa tidak digelar serentak. Pertanyaan tentang pemilu dan demokrasi juga datang dari Daffa, Anya, Aqila, dan beberapa siswa lainnya. Banyaknya siswa yang mengajukan pertanyaan, membuktikan betapa antusiasnya mereka menyambut Pemilu 2024.
Wakil Kepala Sekolah Bidang Kurikulum SMA Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe, Aiza Fitriana, S.Si., M.Pd, menyebutkan sebagian besar siswa yang hadir akan menjadi pemilih pemula pada Pemilu 2024. “Kegiatan sosialisasi seperti ini, sangat membantu untuk membuka wawasan anak-anak tentang pemilu dan demokrasi,” ujarnya.
Anggota Panwaslih Kota Lhokseumawe, Ayi Jufridar, menyebutkan pemilu di Aceh sedikit berbeda dengan keiikutsertaan partai politik lokal yang tidak ada di provinsi lain di Indonesia. Keberadaan partai politik lokal merupakan implementasi dari Mou Helsinki serta Undang-Undang Nomor 11/2006 Tentang Pemerintahan Aceh.
Namun, keikutsertaan partai politik lokal di Aceh hanya untuk pemilihan anggota DRPK (kabupaten/kota) dan DPR Aceh saja. Sedangkan untuk bisa mencalonkan diri sebagai anggota DPR-RI, kader partai politik lokal bisa berafiliasi dengan partai politik nasional.
Ayi Jufridar mengajar para siswa memiliki kepedulian terhadap proses pemilu dan melaporkan kalau terjadi dugaan pelanggaran. Menurutnya, pengawas pemilu ada di tingkat desa dan nanti ada juga di setiap tempat pemungutan suara.
Ia mengharapkan, para siswa yang menjadi pemilih pemula nanti, ikut memantau proses pemungutan dan penghitungan suara untuk mendukung tahapan pemilu yang bersih, jujur, dan adil sebagaimana amanah undang-undang.[]
