Hello everyone
Today was another one of those days when the rain just wouldn’t let up. The steady downpour had become a familiar backdrop, almost as if the sky itself had settled into a melancholic routine. Despite the dreary weather, I had made plans for the afternoon. My son and I were going to visit a charming little cafe near Karon Beach. It was a quaint place, bursting with vibrant plastic flowers that added a splash of color to the otherwise grey day.
As the afternoon approached, I bundled us up and we set off, the rhythmic pattern of rain accompanying us all the way. The journey was filled with anticipation, my son chattering excitedly about the treats he hoped to find at the cafe. But as we arrived, my heart sank. The cafe was closed, its doors shut tight with a sign indicating it had moved to Patong Beach. A wave of sadness washed over me. This wasn’t just about a closed cafe; it was a pattern that had been repeating itself all week.
Several of my favorite spots had shuttered their doors recently, leaving me feeling adrift. Each time I set out with the hope of enjoying a familiar haunt, I was met with disappointment. Today was no different. The cafe, with its cheerful decor and cozy atmosphere, had been a small beacon of joy in our rain-soaked routine. Now it, too, was gone.
My son and I walked back to the car parked in the park in front of Karon Beach. With the cafe visit thwarted, we decided to change our plans and take a walk along the beach. The rain had finally stopped, though the sky remained overcast, casting a somber tone over the landscape. The beach, usually vibrant in the summer sun, looked a bit dull under the grey sky, yet it retained a certain charm. Surprisingly, there were still quite a few tourists around, their presence adding a lively energy to the scene.
As we strolled along the damp sand, we noticed a group of tourists parasailing. The colorful parachutes stood out against the dark clouds, and I found myself watching with interest. Parasailing, I explained to my son, is an exhilarating activity where a person is towed behind a speedboat while attached to a specially designed parachute. The boat speeds ahead, and as the parachute catches the wind, it lifts the person high into the air, much like a giant kite.
The parasailers soared gracefully above the water, seated securely in harnesses attached to the parachutes. They glided effortlessly, enjoying panoramic views of the sea and coastline from heights of up to 190 meters. The sight was mesmerizing, and I could almost imagine the sensation of floating freely above the ocean, the world below shrinking away like a distant memory. It must feel like being a bird, I thought, soaring above the waves, with the vast expanse of the sea stretching out endlessly beneath you.
My son watched in awe, his eyes wide with wonder. The sight of the parasailers drifting through the air seemed to capture his imagination. We stood there for a long time, just watching, the sound of the waves mingling with the distant hum of the speedboats. It wasn’t the afternoon we had planned, but in that moment, sharing the simple joy of discovery with my son, it felt just right.
After watching the parasailers for a while, my son and I continued our walk along the beach, enjoying the fresh, salty air and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. The beach had its own serene beauty, even under the overcast sky. However, our peaceful stroll was cut short as the rain started to fall again, first as a light drizzle and then quickly escalating to a heavy downpour.
Without hesitation, we turned and ran back towards the park where our car was parked. The rain soaked us as we sprinted across the sand, but we couldn't help but laugh at the sudden turn of events. By the time we reached the car, we were both drenched but in good spirits.
We climbed into the car, shaking off the rain and catching our breath. I turned on the engine and we headed home, leaving the beach behind us. Despite the rain and the unexpected changes in our plans, the afternoon had turned into a memorable adventure. As we drove home, my son chattered excitedly about the parasailers and our rainy beach escapade, his enthusiasm infectious. It wasn’t the day we had planned, but it had been a day well spent, filled with small moments of joy and unexpected fun.
