I hope you will have "A good day/night" when you are done reading this, and I hope you learn as well!
I started travelling on my own at the age of 14, and since then I have been travelling on my own till date, in the process of traveling and exploring, most of my traveles have never been just travelling to have fun, it has always been traveling to go write exams, travelling on my own to school, living on my own in school, travelling out from my own country "Nigeria" to another country to do my BSC, and even as I type I just landed in Lagos, and had to Lodge hotel since it's already late, and my flight is in the morning, so I will proceed my journey tomorrow morning.
The few things I have learnt so far includes:
1: don't involve yourself in an unnecessary conversations: This can lead you to involving yourself in danger especially while talking total strangers, most especially when you get yourself involve with politics related conversations, also it gives room for people to know the kind of person you really are and can easily manipulate you or disrespect you
2: Avoid sleeping on the vehicle: It is totally understandable when you are traveling with someone you know just right beside you, and when you are traveling all alone by yourself, there are a lot of people there not just thinking of heading to their various destinations, but also to steel or cost manipulations. there was one fateful day I was on the vehicle heading to my state and I was sitting in the front seat and there is this another guy on the front seat with me, if you know Nigerian system, you will understand better that the front seat is normally two people that occupies in it, and so we got to a point where the driver had to park and go check his tire at the back, and this guy was busy opening the drivers bug right in front of me, and I was so confused because I was sitting right beside him in the front with and should in case something happens, it could literally denied that he was the one that did it and this guy was looking like a pure criminal.
I didn't say anything to him as I was avoiding involving myself in a very big trouble that I can see with my own two eyes, God was faithful the driver came so quick, when I go to where I was going to drop, I have to tell the driver that I wanted to see him so I can give him my number, just so you could carry his bags and follow me, and yes I did, I had to quickly brief him what I saw so he gets to be very careful, and he told me there was nothing inside the bag that you wasn't that dumb, I was glad and he really appreciated what I did.
So here is why I'm giving you this my personal experience story, if you get involved with such people sitting right beside you and you are busy looking for ways to sleep on that vehicle haha, it's sorry for you,
3: Don't snub: There is this one thing with traveling, you don't behave to be too official or too different from the rest, that way you can easily ask people questions when you are not familiar with your destination, if you are behaving too serious with them you might end up being too prideful to ask them your destination an end up landing yourself in a huge mess roaming around realizing you dropped at the wrong location or anything close to that simply because you felt to big
and didn't want to atlist blend in Little.
When I see blend a little i don't mean you should go ahead and make friends with everyone in the vehicle, what I mean is simply ask the driver or tell him where you are going to and make sure you remind him again so he doesn't forget, and it might even happen you can see someone going the same direction with you.
There are a lot of things I have learnt on my travelling journeys, I will make another post and explain more, but for the main time, I will really like to sleep as I am very stressed and tired because I just landed Lagos and Lodged, so I would love to take a rest now, so I can be fully ready for tomorrow's trip.
