Gunongan is located in the center of Banda Aceh, precisely in front of the Banda Aceh city hall office or to the left of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque.
Gunongan is a relic of the Aceh kingdom which was built by Sultan Iskandar Muda during the heyday of the Aceh kingdom. The purpose of this Gunongan park was to build a playground for his empress who came from Pahang. At that time Putroe Pahang asked the sultan to build a beautiful garden for the empress to use as a playground.
Until now Gunongan is still standing and used as a tourist destination for the city of Banda Aceh. Gunongan Park is increasingly beautified with the construction of green open spaces.
