THE REASON I was attracted to the 1983 Buick Riviera diecast car was because it had the word 'Buick' on it. In order to find this word, I remembered what I had read in the old Tempo Magazine (I forget which edition) which discussed the official car of the first President of Indonesia, Soekarno. It was a luxury car 'stolen' from Japanese colonial officials, a Buick 8, during the early days of Indonesian independence.
I forgot how the story of the seizure of that luxury cars, but, which if I'm not mistaken, the Buick 8 was produced in limited edition in 1939 by General Motors manufacturer in the one of the world's automotive stables, Detroit, United States of America. What is clear, as I mentioned above, is that I collected the 1983 Buick Riviera diecast on the basis of having a very strong common thread with the official car of Indonesia's founding father.
So how about the story surrounding this 1983 Buick Riviera? Actually I'll have to read a lot more. But before of that, let me post the miniature car photos that is now neatly parked in diecast collections garage. Regard.
